Sustainable Development

As many African regions experience dynamic economic growth, we recognize both the opportunities and the challenges that come with economic development. Limited access to training in emerging technologies and sustainable business practices can hinder inclusive progress. Our approach aims to equip individuals and local enterprises with practical skills ranging from digital tools and green technologies to traditional craftsmanship and circular business models. By doing so, we help ensure that target regions leapfrog pass the unsustainable economic paradigms of the past and generate economic activities that are not only innovative and efficient but also environmentally and socially sustainable. Drawing on positive and negative experiences from economic transitions in more developed regions, KYKLOS works to co-create pathways that avoid repeating the same mistakes.

About Gongo Village

Gongo Village, situated in the southwestern part of Saadani National Park, is the focus of an educational initiative aimed at expanding the horizons of the younger generation. The project’s core mission is to expose youth to a broader range of opportunities and inspire them to pursue future careers that are sustainable and do not rely on environmentally harmful practices.

In this area, the local organization SANA has been actively supporting village schools by providing desks for 200 children, installing solar power systems to facilitate the use of visual and digital teaching tools, and offering daily morning porridge to enhance students’ health, concentration, and classroom engagement.

Kyklos contribution

As part of its commitment to digital inclusion, KYKLOS has donated 7 laptops to the community library, enabling students and other individuals to begin building basic digital literacy and to connect with the broader world through access to the internet. In addition to the hardware donation, KYKLOS has also pre installed educational material for after school practice targeted at primary school children, as well as training resources designed to teach basic computer and laptop usage to new learners. The objective is to expand this effort by providing additional laptops and educational content, ensuring more students and community members can benefit from these resources and opportunities.

Parallel activities enabled

In parallel, work is being done by other NGOs to enrich the program through the development of digital tools and educational content. These resources aim to improve the overall quality of learning while encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving among learners. By sharing these tools and methods with other NGOs, the initiative supports wider adoption and long-term sustainability.

Together, these efforts aim to create an inspiring and supportive learning environment that empowers youth in Gongo Village to pursue meaningful, sustainable futures.

Tailoring School

About Pakwach district

This initiative will take place in Uganda's West Nile region, the Pakwach District, one of the most underserved and economically challenged areas in the country. The region's marginalized populations, particularly women and girls, face numerous and intersecting barriers to well-being, including limited access to quality healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.

The absence of structured skills development and capacity-building programs further entrenches cycles of poverty and social exclusion. These challenges were significantly intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to prolonged school closures. As a result, many young girls experienced early marriages, unintended pregnancies, and permanent exclusion from education and employment opportunities.

The project vision

In response, KYKLOS in collaboration with the recently established local PUCE.UGANDA, aims to launch a school dedicated to women’s empowerment, beginning with vocational training in tailoring. These classes will not only provide hands-on skills but also introduce participants to sustainable product design principles. Participants will learn how to design garments and textile products with durability, reuse, repurposing, and ease of repair in mind, aligning their work with circular economy values from the very start.

The long-term vision is to expand the curriculum to include hairdressing, sustainable agriculture, and other locally relevant fields, ultimately engaging both women and men in building more resilient, inclusive livelihoods.

KYKLOS contribution

To launch the first phase, a crowdfunding campaign was completed, enabling 6 women to begin training in September 2025 with the goal to become the trainers of the school. The goal, however, is to secure resources to set up the school, offering at least 20 placements in the first year. Through this initiative, KYKLOS aims to empower individuals with practical, future-ready skills while promoting a development model that is inclusive, regenerative, and safe by design.
